ABOUT THE FESTIVAL - AND GETTING HERE

Pirates in the Port 2026 - organised by Bois y Bryn

Bois y Bryn are a shanty band based in Cwmbran, nr Newport.

There are about 20 of us, and we perform regularly around South East Wales, as well as at many Shanty Festivals across the West Country and beyond.

In 2024 we organised the Festival of the Sea Shanty Festival in Barry, to coincide with the RNLI's 200th anniversary. In 2025 we decided to bring Wales's Shanty Festival closer to home, to Newport's vibrant live music scene.

In 2026, we go again - bigger and better!

Getting To The Festival

Newport is ideally placed for easy access from England and from further west in Wales.

The Festival venues stretch down the High Street, via Stow Hill and Queens Square, to Upper Dock Street and Kingsway. Most venues are within 1-2 minutes' walk, and from end to end is less than a 15 minute walk.

By Train:

Newport Station is 5 minutes walk from the Festival hub at the Corn Exchange and the start of the Shanty Trail.

By Bus:

Newport Bus Station is next to Newport Market and less than 5 minutes from the ShantyTrail.

By Car:

NCP Car Park, High Street NP20 4AX - 24/7 parking next to the Corn Exchange

Friars Walk Car Park, Kingsway, NP20 1EA - 24/7 parking next to the Potters/Mercure and opposite the Riverfront Theatre
