With less than 1 day to go, we're on the final countdown to Pirates in the Port, Newport's first ever Shanty and Folk Festival, and we hope you're as excited as we are! You can view the timetable of performances on the Band Schedule page, but just to let you know that proceedings will kick off in the Corn Exchange (top of High Street) at 11am, when the Mayor of Newport, Cllr Kate Thomas, opens the festival - followed by a session by us (Bois y Bryn) up to about 12pm. After that, it's all go with gigs starting at 12pm in most of the other venues apart from Slipping Jimmys (2pm start). All details in our Festival Programmes - available from the visitor hub in the Corn Exchange - together with bios of all the bands. In addition to the main venues, watch out for random 'pop-ups' out on the street from time to time, as bands keep in trim for their next indoor performance. We're expecting these to be in High Street, Upper Dock Street and Bridge Street. If you enjoy our Festival Programme, please visit the lovely businesses who have placed adverts in it. We're collecting for SARA (Severn sea rescue), Wales Air Ambulance, and the RNLI.

We are pleased to announce Bridport Broadsides as one of the performers in this year's Pirates in the Port Festival in Newport! Bridport Broadsides Bridport Broadsides are a disparate collection of old (and not so old) men formed in 2019 and are now a thriving crew of 15 with total age of 1039 and average age of 69. We have a desire to enchant the world with our vocal excellence and sparkling wit (?!) through rendition of shanties and sea songs. In doing so we have raised funds for a variety of worthy, needy and good causes and we have performed at various festivals and village fetes and often by invitation in pubs, but have yet to succeed in completely emptying one!
